In 2020, one of the main business trends became a preservation of companies’ positions and maintenance of current activities in connection with the COVID-19. At the same time, as Maxima Legal’s partner Natalia Diatlova told the Delovoy Peterburg newspaper, the Russian M&A market is characterised by certain contradictions.

“On the one hand, many transactions have been suspended or negotiations have taken on a waiting list, as it is difficult to assess the risks of affecting the business and market. On the other hand, there is an increase in the number of transactions to acquire a competitive or new business area for the acquirer, as well as mergers of companies with a stronger partner. For example, Maxima Legal has been engaged in a legal support two deals since the pandemics started – one of them is the purchase of biotechnological production by a foreign manufacturer, and the other is the sale of a distribution network for the sale of chemical products manufactured in Russia to EU countries”, said Natalia Diatlova.
