Natalia Demina talked about the culture of inheritance planning in Russia in an interview for the DP

Natalia Demina - Partner

As part of the preparation of the Lawyers’ Rating 2021, the Delovoy Peterburg newspaper interviewed Natalia Demina, Head of Private Wealth Practice at Maxima Legal, who won the Breakthrough of the Year nomination. The expert talked about the formation of inheritance culture in Russia, recent trends, gaps in inheritance legislation and much more.

“Inheritance is our anchor area. It is where everything started. Indeed, inheritance is now a trend. The media, which are solving an important problem, deserve great credit for this: they make people think about where and to whom to leave their wealth. After all, now the country has seen the first wave of private wealth holders, who have reached the age of asset transfer.

Until now, a culture of estate planning and succession has been completely absent in the country. It is still not customary to talk about wills … Due to our mentality, this topic is considered taboo. This was caused by the lack of private capital as an institution in the past, and the lack of an inheritance tax …

… In fact, inheritance is a very beautiful theme”.
