Sergei Bakeshin has commented on claims against the St Petersburg Department of the Interior Ministry in the amount of 1.3 billion rubles

Megasnab-service LLC, one of the defendants in the criminal case of a fraud, which was initiated by the police in 2013, sent to the Arbitration Court 13 claims against the Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of St Petersburg and the Leningrad Region. The plaintiff demands compensation for the damage caused by his version during the investigation of the mentioned criminal case. In this case, according to the investigation, a group of malefactors, including Megasnab-services, were illegally obtaining VAT from the federal budget.

Sergei Bakeshin, Head of the Dispute resolution practice at Maxima Legal, told the Delovoy Peterburg newspaper that such lawsuits are rare. “In order to recover the damage caused by the illegal activities of the investigative bodies, one must first prove the illegality of these activities, which is not so easy in itself. Given the small number of such cases, it is difficult to talk about sustainable judicial practice and predict the outcome of the case,” noted the expert.
