Head of the IP/IT Practice at Maxima Legal, Maxim Ali has given a presentation at a conference titled ‘IT in healthcare: the development continues’. The organiser of the conference was a leading Russian internet publication on cutting-edge technology, CNews.

Maxim talked about the problems and prospects of the law in telemedicine in Russia, which entered into force on 1 January 2018. “The regulation of the sector is currently at a junction of issues with providing medical care, data protection and protection of intellectual property. Companies providing telemedicine services need to take into account a number of ‘non-medical’ requirements, including the localisation and protection of personal data, as well as the provisions of “Yarova’s law” (a law that regulates storing data). The number of rules in this area will only increase, and lawmakers will have to cope with new challenges, for example, determining the status of the provider of telemedicine services and distributing responsibility for decisions made by artificial intelligence”, commented Maxim Ali.

Telemedicine is the use of modern communication and information technologies to provide remote medical assistance. In particular this relates to providing diagnostics of patients by doctors remotely and issuing prescriptions and certificates.
