Kommersant published an article on the topic of the export-innovative opportunities for the pharmaceutical cluster in St Petersburg.

At the present time, the Russian pharmaceutical industry is developing primarily on the basis of import substitution.  The state has over a number of years introduced various instruments to support and simulate the knowledge-intensive sectors of the economy, including in the production of pharmaceuticals.

Maxim Ali, Senior Associate and IP/IT Specialist at Maxima Legal, talked to Kommersant about the legal factors which strengthen the case for investment in intellectual property in the Russian jurisdiction.  According to Maxim, these factors include a good level of harmonisation of legislation in the field of intellectual property with foreign and international standard, as well as the establishment of a specialised Intellectual Property Court. Furthermore, the codification of legislation and the adoption of part four of the Civil Code has, Maxim suggests, contributed to greater transparency of regulation in the field of intellectual property protection.
