Specially for Pravo.ru legal portal? Nikita Deynega, Senior Associate, Head  of Tax & Administrative Law practice at Maxima Legal, explained what a lawyer should look out for when drafting a CV.

Thus, according to Nikita, there is no need to resort to career specialists. For lawyers, distinguished by the ability to articulate their thoughts, it will not be a problem to write a resume on their own.

The expert noted that he feels more comfortable with CVs with a photo of the applicant. “If I’m interested in a CV without a picture of the candidate I will probably try to find their profile on social networks,” he clarified.

Speaking about what is the first thing one pays attention to in a resume of an experienced lawyer, Nikita Deynega said that it is “important to see and understand the logic of career path, to learn about examples of implemented projects to be able to form an idea of potential professional skills, which can be used “here and now”.

He also advised avoiding unnecessary emotion in a CV, as a letter from an applicant can be received by employees with different perspectives and requirements. “Most are more likely to like you if you avoid extremes. That is, don’t make your CV too short or, conversely, too long. Try to stand out, but don’t be too loud. For example, “I hate duplicity and hypocrisy of colleagues” may be replaced with quiet “I would like to join a team of professionals”, the Head of  Tax & Administrative Law practice at Maxima Legal explained to Pravo.ru.

In addition, Nikita warned against excessively creative information in the “About Me” column. As an example, he cited the case of a candidate who mentioned hookah smoking as one of his hobbies when applying for a position in the legal department of a big oil company.
