On July 9, the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation began a consideration of claims to the Ministry of Culture of Russian Federation with the demand to invalidate the order on inclusion of the Swedish fortress “Nienshants” on the Okhta cape in St Petersburg in the register of cultural heritage objects. The claim was filed by several plaintiffs, each with different objectives. So, Gazprom Neft intends to define the limits of its own development project on the territory adjacent to the controversial site. The community of the historic preservation activists is seeking to extend the boundaries of the protected monument to include on the protection all historical sites placed on the Okhta cape. At the last meeting it was decided to involve the Committee for State Control, Use and Protection of Monuments of History and Culture of St Petersburg and the Ministry of Justice into the case. The next one is scheduled for August 6.

Sergei Bakeshin, Head of Dispute resolution practice at Maxima Legal, explained to the Novy Prospekt that the consideration of this case by the Supreme Court might take several months.
