St Petersburg Governor, Alexander Beglov, proposed the appointment of a former Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation, Maxim Sokolov, to the post of vice-governor to take charge of transport infrastructure, investment policy and tourism. The candidate is widely known in the business community of the city as the co-founder of the elite medical clinic X-Clinic and the owner of a 40% stake in X-Clinic LLC, which manages it.

Head of Dispute Resolution and Insolvency Practice at Maxima Legal, Sergei Bakeshin, reminded RBC Petersburg that civil servants holding shares or interests in companies could lead to a conflict of interest. “It is possible that Sokolov will now have to transfer his package to a trust”, Sergei explained.
