Putin`s Rector vs. Mass Media: Why the case of Vladimir Litvinenko is dangerous // Forbes Russia – October 2018

Vladimir Litvinenko, rector of St Petersburg Mining University, demanded 65 million rubles from the editorial staff and journalists of Delovoy Peterburg as well as the human rights organization Transparency International. The court of first instance found companies guilty of distributing false information about the activities of the university, and ordered the defendants not only to remove the compromising materials, but also to pay the plaintiff a fine, however, reducing its amount to Br10 million. On appeal, the St. Petersburg City Court decided to deny the rector’s claims against Delovaya St. Petersburg and three journalists of the publication, and reduced the amount collected from Transparency International by a factor of five.
