On January 1, 2021, the law on remote work came into force in Russia. The act allows an employer to conclude an agreement with an employee on remote work, temporary remote work and combined remote work involving part-time employment in an office and at home. At the same time, employers are obliged to provide employees with everything necessary for remote work. The main change in the rights of an employee working remote is a possibility to independently establish work and rest regime. At the same time, the legislator has expanded basis for termination of an employment contract with an employee “on a remote basis”.

“The legislator also established an additional guarantee of the rights of employees, mentioning that the transfer of an employee to telecommuting may not be the basis for reducing a salary,” clarified Alina Kalinskova, junior associate at Maxima Legal, for Vot Tak TV international online project.
