Maxim Ali told Vedomosti about the influence of the pandemic on legal business

Maxim Ali - Partner

Maxim Ali, Partner, Head of Intellectual Property and Information Technologies practice at Maxima Legal, described to Vedomosti the impact of the pandemic on the legal business.

In particular, Maxim noted that “many industries are not in the best condition, there is inflation everywhere – all this is reflected on the demand for legal services”. However, according to the expert, it is possible that the worst moments for the economy are yet to come and this will make the fight for the survival of law firms even tougher.

At the same time Maxim drew attention to the changing business environment. Thus, thanks to the digitalisation of events, the professional legal community is changing from a local to a federal one. “Communication among colleagues is no longer limited to the boundaries of one’s own city. We see more and more events outside Moscow and St. Petersburg which gather top lawyers”, the expert noted.

At the same time, as a way to expand the client base, online formats are rarely successful. “After all, choosing a legal service is a very trusting process which is more difficult to organise remotely,” added Maxim.

On the other hand, as Maxim Ali noted, intellectual property issues are exacerbated by the move to digital, “even businesses from the real sector, which were only interested in patents at most, are starting to ask questions such as software rights protection”.
