Maxim Avrashkov has explained to Delovoy Peterburg the pricing of dispute resolution

The geopolitical situation, which has changed dramatically over the last six months, has affected all sectors of the economy. One of the key factors affecting the legal services market has been the withdrawal of foreign business from Russia. This has led to the almost complete disappearance of the high-cost sector, which was predominantly handled by the Russian subsidiaries of international law firms. At the same time, foreign consultants have also “phased out” their presence in Russia. Their local teams are now creating their own brands, but as there is no longer their usual market, they are forced to work at different rates and enter segments that were traditionally the responsibility of the Russain law firms originally created without foreign participation.

At the same time, despite increased competition, prices in St Petersburg’s legal services market have either shown a slight decrease or remained unchanged.

For example, Maxim Avrashkov, Managing Partner at Maxima Legal, explained to Delovoy Peterburg newspaper what the cost of litigation support is made up of. “As a rule, a dispute is more expensive the larger it is as a process. The price is influenced, for example, by the presence or absence of forensic expertise in the case, as well as the complexity of the subject matter of the dispute, which may require the involvement of additional, highly specialised experts. In addition, disputes with a foreign element are traditionally more expensive. Even if the case is heard by a Russian court, the applicable law may be foreign, which often requires the opinion, position or opinion of foreign specialists,” the expert explained.
