Maxim Avrashkov explained the popularity of owning a business through a foreign entity

Maxim Avrashkov - Managing Partner

In preparation for the World Cup 2018, business newspaper, Delovoy Peterburg, undertook research of betting companies in Russia. For the newspaper, Managing Partner at Maxima Legal, Maxim Avrashkov, talked about the trend for shareholders of such companies to be foreign companies.

“Firstly it is easier to conceal information about actual beneficiaries. Secondly, it provides additional opportunities to transfer funds to Russian legal entities and to receive funds from them.  And thirdly, it provides for opportunities to enter into other types of transactions for the transfer of assets and moving to other jurisdictions. It seems to me, that in the case of bookmarkers the main reason is to conceal the ultimate owners. The bookmarker business around the world does not have an entirely clean reputation and part of it may be associated with fraud and the use of insider information”, commented Maxim Avrashkov.
