The editors of the Delovoy Petersburg newspaper found out from the top 10 participants of the rating ‘Yurtop: Team Score’ what questions St. Petersburg businessmen most often asked for legal support in 2024. According to the survey results, the top three most common requests included corporate transactions, interaction with foreign companies, and taxation.

Nikita Deynega, Partner and Head of Tax and Administrative Law Practice at Maxima Legal, explained to Delovoy Petersburg that in the area of taxation, businessmen most often asked for clarification of the essence and consequences of this year’s tax reform, and were interested in how to prepare their business and its beneficiaries for the upcoming changes.

There is also still a high interest in finding and realising tax reserves, i.e. identifying hidden inefficiencies leading to excessive taxation, structuring business in Russia and abroad taking into account tax changes, etc.

‘Such requests continue to come from business representatives from a wide range of sectors, from real business to IT companies. As potential jurisdictions, friendly countries both in the near abroad (CIS countries, Turkey, Serbia) and not so close territories (UAE, China, India, African and South American countries) are still considered. The reason is the same – the relevance of these countries increases for Russian business in conditions when Western jurisdictions, on the one hand, have introduced their own or joined the sanctions imposed, and on the other hand – the Russian government has introduced so-called counter-sanctions measures against the same unfriendly countries,’ – explained the expert.
