The Petrogradsky District Court of St Petersburg upheld the claims of the city’s Chief State Sanitary Officer for the forced hospitalisation of a patient who could have contradicted the coronavirus; however, the defendant’s lawyer intends to appeal the decision.

“The court in each case must assess the validity of claims, the level of danger to others and make a decision based on a balance between the rights of the person admitted to hospital and those who may be at risk of a serious infectious disease,” explained Head of Dispute Resolution and Insolvency Practice at Maxima Legal, Sergei Bakeshin. Sergei added that “if the St Petersburg City Court upheld the decision of the Petrograd District Court, then similar disputes in St Petersburg will most likely be resolved in the same way.”
