Sergei Bakeshin - Counsel

Today, 14th of January, the creditors of Vadim Voytanovskiy, head of Ligovka-Yamskaya municipal district, will decide on the issue of introducing the debtor’s property sale procedure. At the moment the register of creditors includes the claims of VTB and Sber banks, as well as two individuals – Dmitriy Prokopovich and Mikhail Telezhin. The aggregate amount owed is about 12 million roubles. It should be reminded that the insolvency proceedings against the head of Ligovka-Yamskaya municipal district were initiated by Dmitry Prokopovich in 2020.

According to Sergei Bakeshin, Head of Dispute Resolution and Insolvency practice at Maxima Legal, bankruptcies of politicians have no peculiarities. “However, if the procedure is not completed before the start of the election campaign, a conflict may arise. A candidate is obliged to open a bank account for the election campaign, but has no such rights until the end of the insolvency process. It would be interesting to see how such a situation would be resolved by a court,” said the expert.
